PLATFORM - SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGED GROWTH

  • Represent residents’ interests in development approval process

  • Balance the growth needs of our Town with the natural and cultural resources and ecosystems upon which our economy is based.

  • Plan for variable densities across our urban areas in consideration of our heritage and environment.

  • Complete and update secondary plans and develop strong and clear zoning by-laws to implement our Official Plan objectives.

  • View Official Plan amendments as an exception to the rule, not as a norm

  • Ensure that all plans are complementary e.g. OP, secondary plans, transportation plans, parks and recreation plans, tourism, etc.

  • Advocate for holistic planning decisions, not piecemeal approvals

  • Seek information on stormwater management at application stage instead of waiting for site plan stage where Council does not get approval option.

  • Advocate to review stormwater criteria in light of climate change

  • Consider Low Impact Development (LID) or green infrastructure for new development areas e.g. Glendale
